How to understand that you should change your job?
The ideal job option is when you go to it as if it were a holiday. It is not a problem for you to arrive early or stay in the evening for a couple of hours. After all, you adore this business and cannot imagine your life without it. But it’s not always so lucky.
On the contrary, many are accustomed to working like this: they frantically wait for Monday, and then dream all week that Friday evening will come as soon as possible. Every morning they forcefully drag themselves to the office and wait all day for the early end of the working day. And this is a vicious circle from which you need to get out immediately. And yet when to quit your job?
Lack of interest
Work can stop being fun for a variety of reasons. Perhaps it’s not the work itself, but regular stress: you don’t get enough sleep, you get very tired, or you have problems in the family, and the weather is bad outside. Maybe the company, industry, or even profession is not right for you. This is the first signs you should quit your job immediately.
If there is a feeling of discomfort, then absolutely something needs to be changed. But it is important to approach this issue consciously and to begin to understand why the work has ceased to please. And based on this, develop a plan of action.
The processes in the company, the team or constant stress make it difficult to feel comfortable and understand your desires. In this case, perhaps a calm environment in another company will return your interest in the profession or give you time and energy to think about moving to another.
Career change is a bold choice. It is suitable for those who are ready to learn and master new skills. But it doesn’t have to be difficult.
Pay attention to adjacent areas. For example, if you are a copywriter, you can try your hand at texts for social networks, advertising and media. Or if you used to work as a copywriter in social networks, then you probably know a little about how to distribute content and build a community – try yourself in this. The main thing is not to get hung up on your profession and look wider.
Lack of job prospects
Everyone knows the old scenario: join a company, work hard, move up the corporate ladder. But it’s been decades since it was considered a viable option, and not just because of layoffs, outsourcing, or robots.
Nowadays, there is no clear reason that prevents many professionals from building a career in their company. With successful companies often having to change strategies to adapt to changes in the market, and with many skills in decline in five years or less, companies often have no idea what kind of staff they will need in the next few years, or who will qualified enough to meet the established criteria.
Companies’ recommendations on how to move forward in such an environment are often insignificant, because they themselves cannot be sure of anything.
That companies are increasingly relying on individuals to more closely monitor their careers is a topic I often bring up at corporate conferences.
Internal burnout
The concept of “burnout syndrome” was introduced by the American psychiatrist Herbert Freudenberger in 1974. The word “burnout” means that a person stops burning with his work. This condition is described as a progressive emotional exhaustion that occurs in response to prolonged stress and overexertion in the workplace. Burnout is characterized by a decrease in indicators in several areas at once – physical and emotional state, motivation and work results.
This is a fairly common problem in companies. There are various names for this syndrome: emotional, mental and professional burnout. They are synonyms for the same condition. The term “creative burnout” is less common. Commonly used to describe burnout in creative people such as artists, writers, designers, and musicians. This is another reason for when is it time to leave your job.
Desire for career growth
The issue of building a proper career worries not only recent graduates of various educational institutions, but also serious professionals who have been working in one place for quite a long time, but do not receive any career advancement.
For any person, such a move is very important – because it proves his self-sufficiency and at the same time is an excellent incentive for further professional growth.
Very often, an increase in salary also depends on career growth, and this is already a stable motivation for any employee. But in practice, not every person manages to make a career, some stay in one position for decades and they don’t even have prospects for advancement. A lot in this matter really depends on the employee himself.
Sincere love for the work in which a person is engaged
Practice has shown that this is a fairly significant factor, and the success of building a career in most cases depends on peace of mind and complete job satisfaction. That is why it is so important to choose the right future profession so that it is exactly to your liking, and not to please your parents or controversial fashion. Only when the choice is right, you can think and plan to build a career. In the field of activity that you sincerely hate, which you initially do not like, it is almost impossible to make a career.
A sincere desire to achieve career growth in a particular enterprise
This is also a significant factor on which promotion directly depends. A positive attitude, a desire to gain the necessary experience, complete self-confidence, a sincere conviction that you really deserve a stable career advancement, and you will definitely achieve it – will definitely give your adequate positive result. Your mindset literally needs to be geared towards achieving the position you desire.
Continuous professional development and professional growth
Relentless self-improvement, constant search and acquisition of new professional knowledge is your driving force in the real achievement of your goal. You should not rely solely on the experience and knowledge that you somehow get at your place of work. Learn to track innovations on your own, and then implement the necessary positive experience of other companies, be sure to analyze unsuccessful or negative experience.
Any constructive analysis of the performance of your competitors also plays a very important role in your own professional growth, for which the most sincere desire to significantly improve the quality of your work is essential.
Optimal use of time management for efficient organization of working time
This will help to cope well with job responsibilities and allocate the right amount of time for self-improvement and self-education. And proper self-organization contributes to the effective planning of their activities.
